Smart glasses at our Recreation Centres

A new policy has been introduced at the Margaret River and Augusta Recreation Centres, with AI-enabled smart glasses now banned from public recreation areas.

This change helps protect privacy, support child safety and make sure everyone feels safe, respected and comfortable while using our facilities.

Manager Sport and Community Recreation, Dylan Brown, said the policy is one of several ways we’re helping keep our centres safe and welcoming.

“Smart glasses are just one part of the picture – clear Conditions of Entry, trained staff, procedures and other safeguarding measures all play a role in creating an environment our community can enjoy with confidence,” he said.

“While smart glasses are a new technology, the privacy concerns around filming in shared recreation spaces are not new. This policy helps make our expectations clear and supports the existing rules around filming in our facilities.”

Accessibility exemptions are available. If you use smart glasses as a visual aid, please speak with a member of our team to arrange permission before using them in our centres.
