Swimming pool update

We’re pleased to confirm we have engaged a contractor to begin re-lining the balance tank, and they can start work next week. All going to plan the contractor should have the work done in 2 weeks.  πŸ“†

Once the balance repairs are complete, we’ll need another couple of weeks to get the pool water heated, treated and signed off by the Health Department.  🏊‍♀️

We can’t share an exact date just yet, but will keep providing more information as it comes to hand. πŸ“’

You can read our previous update about the balance tank here.

Outside the Recreation Centre

Finish line in sight

The Rec Centre staff might be mistaken for contestants on The Block this week. πŸ› οΈ πŸ‘·‍♀️ πŸ› οΈ

That’s because it’s all hands on deck to get ready for reopening on March 25. 🌟

Before Scotty Cam shouts: “Tools Down” this is what we need to get done:

🌿 Landscaping
πŸ‹οΈ‍♀️ Install and test gym equipment
πŸ–₯️ Move the Rec Staff Office
πŸŽͺ Relocate kids club
πŸ€ Dismantle Court 3
πŸ’¦ Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning

It also means the ‘temporary’ gym on Court 3 won’t be operating and fitness classes are on hold. Courts 1 and 2 will be open from 3.30 pm each day for afternoon sport, with access from the rear of the building.

We should have an update about the pool in the next few days.

Refurb update

The good news is the refurbished Margaret River Rec Centre building has been signed off by the builder and is on track to reopen on 25 March. The not so good news - we will need to stagger the reopening, with dry side operations starting ahead of the pool.

While the fit out of the gym, creche and offices is proceeding as planned, we’re disappointed to announce a leak in the pool’s balance tank has been discovered, and will delay the opening of the pool.

The leak was not visible and so not detected until we started refilling the pool in preparation for reopening. The fastest and most cost-effective solution is to re-line the balance tank. Once we can source the materials and secure the trades, we’ll be able to confirm how long the repairs will take.

The balance tank was in working order before the renovation began and previous assessments did not show any issues, which is why repairs to the balance tank were not included in the scope of the project.

We know this news is frustrating for everyone – including us – but can assure you, fixing it is our priority and we are doing everything possible to minimise any delay. We'll keep you updated as we have more information.
