General Information
  • Term 2 dates: Classes begin Monday 5 May 2025 to Monday 30 June 2025 (classes not run on public holidays).
  • Enrolments close: All online enrolments close 12:00pm Friday 2 May. Please contact swimschool@amrshire.wa.gov.au for enrolment enquiries after Friday 2 May.
  • Pool Lessons: Infant and pre-school program, and swim and survive program (Stage 1 and up). 

Kidsport

Kidsport Information

To use KidSport funding for the Margaret River Swim School you need to:

  1. Apply to KidSport – visit www.kidsport.dlgsc.wa.gov.au
  2. Once you're approved, KidSport will send you a voucher code. Please forward this voucher code to swimschool@amrshire.wa.gov.au
  3. We will then issue you a voucher to use for you to complete your child's enrolment.
  4. You must receive a voucher from Margaret River Swim School before enrolling your child.

Please complete the Kidsport process prior to enrolling. If you are concerned with missing out on a place , please contact us via email so we can hold your child(ren) a space whilst Kidsport is being processed. An administration fee may be deducted from your refund if you proceed with enrolment before Kidsport processing.

Our classes

Infants (6 months – 36 months)

Infants (6 months – 36 months)

We follow the Royal Life Saving Infant Aquatics Little Ducks program. The age-based program encourages individual progression in developing aquatic skills suitable to the child’s developmental stage. The program is taught with the child dependent on the parent or carer in the water. Infant Aquatics uses songs, games and activities to ensure children experience a variety of skills including entries, floating, breathing and movement.

Little Ducks 1 - 6-12 months (offered term 1,2 & 4 only)
Little Ducks 2 – 12-18months
Little Ducks 3 - 18-24 months
Little Ducks 4 - 24-30months
Little Ducks 5 - 30-36months

Pre-school (3-5 years old)

Our pre-school classes are equivalent to the Royal Life Saving Swim program and caters for children 3 to 5 years, where parents or careers provide out-of-water supervision. The levels are based on their ability than age. The program begins with water familiarisation through to the use of equipment to advanced teaching of safety. stroke development and swimming independently.

Turtle 3–4-years old – building independence. Parents begin in the water, aiming to transition out when child is ready.
Angelfish 3.5-5 years old – Stage 1 equivalent. Learning to submerge, glide & float independently.
Seahorse 4-5 years old – Stage 2 equivalent. Learning to effectively kick and swim 5m freestyle without a breathing pattern.
Octopus 4-5 years old – working on the beginnings of stage 3 with the use of floatation aids. Introduction of a freestyle breathing pattern.

Swim and Survive – Stage 1 to 15

Swim and survive stages are for children aged 5 years and over and are offered Monday to Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Our school age swim school program is Royal Life Saving WA endorsed, with a strong focus on correct swimming strokes such as Freestyle, Backstroke, Survival Backstroke, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, and Butterfly. All assessments are based on the ‘must sees’ set by Royal Life Saving, and survival sequences must be completed in a competent manner.

Squads

Our squad program is for the non-competitive swimmer, with a focus on technique. Fitness and endurance. Students are taught starts, turns, and training drills to increase stroke efficiency. Entry into squad is for students currently in stage 8 and above within the Margert River Swim School or Education Department swim programs. Squad sessions go for 40mins, fins and a water bottle are required.

Adult Lessons

It's never too late to learn a new skill or brush up on your swimming. Adult lessons include water familiarisation, stroke progression as well as drills to improve technique. Classes are offered in the mornings and afternoons during the week.

Learn to Swim Program

About Us

The Margaret River Swim School will be delivering Infant and Pre-School classes during the day on weekday mornings. After school lessons currently scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, and. Saturday mornings. 

The online enrolment process briefly outlines what each stage / level entails. For more information on the after school lessons and your childs equivalent stage, please refer to the Royal Life Saving WA Swim and Survive levels as the basis for your stage selection. Teachers and Supervisors will assess Week 1 and move childrens stages accordingly. 

Here at the Margaret River Swim School, we aim to offer swim programs for all ages and abilities.

Our swim school is progressive and positive, with a focus on safety as well as an emphasis on correct swimming technique. We are endorsed by Royal Life Saving and our instructors are Royal Life, Austswim or Swim Australia accredited, and all have Working with Children Checks, police clearance and are CPR qualified. 

The Learn to Swim classes are 30minutes long, and we run four 8 week terms per year. We offer private lessons, either for 20 minutes in the mornings during our infant & pre-school classes, and for 30 minutes during our after-school lessons.

The Margaret River Swim School is a registered Kidsport club. Kidsport is a program administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, enabling eligible children to participate in community sport by offering up to $500 per year towards club fees. Eligible children must be aged between 5 and 18 years of age and listed on a valid Health Care Card or Pension Card.

Parent Information

All children under 12 years of age must be dropped off and collected from their swim instructors meeting area. Parents/Guardians must remain on site at all times during the lesson. 

If your child has any medical conditions, please include this information on the enrolment form and advise your swim instructor on day 1 of the program.

Parents & carers of children under 12 years of age must remain on pool deck and be actively supervising their child during their lesson. If your child is under 5 years of age, they must wear a ‘Keep Watch Around Water’ wristband and be accompanied by a swimming adult, within arm’s reach at all times. The ‘Watch Around Water’ wrist bands are available from our reception.

All students enrolled in the Margaret River Swim School are issued with a scan token or scan wristband for entry purposes. Please scan in at reception on your way into the centre every week. Please enquire at reception regarding any lost scan tokens or lost scan wristbands.

Participants in the Margaret River Swim School receive a priority re-enrolment period before new enrolments open.
